Case Study: LCO.edu
Services: Web Design; Research & Reporting
The previous site was written by multiple authors, all using one of those horrible "web design" software packages. (I know they seem like a good idea -- they're not.) The code was very clunky; the old site loaded slowly and with many errors.
Sanders Digital conducted a survey of faculty, staff and students. We determined that LCO.edu needed consistency and an updated aesthetic. I created a new design, aiming to incorporate Ojibwe culture and extensive use of photographs in a consistent, easy-to-navigate format. Most of the current data was ported over, with the addition of information not previously available on the web site. I also added useful pages, like a "class resources" page directing students to helpful links.
The new LCO.edu has every feature one would expect from a college site, as well as portraying the cultural components and unique identity. Even with the addition of sizable photographs, the new LCO.edu loads more quickly than the previous site.
A NOTE OF THANKS: the photos on LCO.edu are essential to the makeup of the site. I took many of the photos, but luckily several of LCOOCC's faculty and staff are accomplished photographers. I would like to give special thanks to Ray Burns, Greg Furtman, Thelma Nayquonabe and Mike Smith for the use of their photos.
LCOOCC received a full report, including recommendations related to branding and future web development and a collection of best-practices among college web sites.
